Alfred Grixti, 44, graduated in education from the University of Malta in 1986 and then specialised in politics and industrial relations at the University of Oxford, England from where he obtained a post-graduate Diploma in Social Studies with distinction and a Masters in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management.

Alfred Grixti presently works as a headmaster of a State Primary School. He also has a part-time appointment with the Department of Public Policy in the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy at the University of Malta.

His area of specialisation is industrial relations and manpower policy and he has written extensively in the local media about the changing nature of industrial relations in Malta as a direct result of the shifts in Malta’s labour force which is seeing the emergence of an ever increasing number of Maltese employees whose only form of employment is part-time work.

Alfred Grixti is also active on the political level. Between 1996 and 1998 he was the deputy chairman of the Employment and Training Corporation and was the political advisor to the then minister of social policy. He stood as a candidate for the Malta Labour Party at the last general elections and is currently an elected member of the party’s national executive. Apart from reading for the post graduate diploma in Education Administration and Management, Mr Grixti currently, forms part of a team of educationists advising the Hon. Carmelo Abela, Labour’s senior spokesperson on education.

Alfred led, as Secretary General, the Ghaqda Zghazagh Socjalisti (Socialist Youth, Malta) for a number of years in the eighties and early nineties. He was also elected as Educaton Secretary of the Malta Labour Party, during which period Alfred worked hard with a dynamic team of professionals to overhaul and streamline the induction process of the various committees and activists of the Malta Labour Party.

Grixti is, to date the consultant to the Malta Labour Party's electronic daily newspaper Maltastar, which was instrumental in breaking news covering various political, social and local subjects. It was under Alfred's watch that Maltastar was awarded a number of prestigious awards and citations, thus projecting the professional level reached by this electronic means of political communications tool.

In the March 2008 local council elections, Alfred Grixti ran for office for his first time in the Zebbug Local Council and was elected Deputy Mayor of Zebbug. This dedication to his locality was the fruit of years of hands-on work as the Secretary of the Zebbug Local Committee of the Malta Labour Party.

Alfred Grixti is married to Angela, also an assistant head in a state primary school, and they live in Haz-Zebbug with their five cats and pet dog, Buddy.
