Trip Home... : Oct 11, 2009

I was in Dallas last weekend for the very first Southwest Classic: Arkansas vs. Texas A&M. ( http://ping.fm/ag3SM ) We had a sad first few possessions where we not only didn't have a single first down, but we also didn't even complete not even one pass. And during this time Texas A&M's Aggies were able to score 10 points. I thought this might be a runaway loss - but the opposite was true! We the Razorbacks finally found their sea legs we scored 30 points before the half and by the end of the game it was Arkansas Razorbacks 47 - Texas A&M Aggies 19. On top of it all, I had a $300 club seat near the fifty yard line and an excellent seat!

After the game I went home for four days to see my family. This went okay. Short but okay. Then it was off to New Orleans where I have been the past three days.

The first night, believe it or not, I was so tired I stayed in. The second night I went down to Bourbon Street with Luzius "Luzi" Haffter, a Swiss guy who works for my organization who flew to meet me here in New Orleans. We had a few beers in a few different places and had dinner: For me chicken and sausage gumbo starter and red beans and rice with Louisiana hot links for the main course - and Turbo Dog beer! Yesterday we rented a car and drove to Lafayette to watch the Louisiana Rajin' Cajuns duke it out with the North Texas Mean Green / War Eagles. But to our surprize, as we went early, we found out that the Les Festivals Acadiens et Créoles ( http://ping.fm/rR8yS ) was going on! We were at Dwyer's Cafe ( http://ping.fm/0moPn ) and a young waitress, who was studying in Lafayette at the University of Louisiana to become a pharmacist told us that this was going on. So we had a few hours before the game an headed on over. We got our shoes muddy but, hey, it was a great time!

Then off to the game...

Louisiana really played poorly in the first half and to me North Texas was handing it to them except on basically three offensive plays in a row North Texas through two interceptions (the first for a Louisiana defensive touchdown and the second resulted in a Louisiana field goal) and a fumble which kept North Texas out of the end zone. If you ask me, even though Louisiana played much better in the second half, these three plays are what won them the game. Nonetheless, it was a nail biter. ( http://ping.fm/L5mGY ) It took a touchdown with 26 seconds to go on the clock to secure the win for the Rajin' Cajuns.

It was Luzi's first American football game. His opinion? Exiting first quarter, boring in the middle, and damned exiting finish. I can't argue with that.

Back in New Orleans today. Tired. A bit croupy and fighting off a fever. I have a busy week next week so I need my strength. But otherwise I am enjoying life!

Hey Gary,

i think I would rather get my hair cut... and then screw it all up later by taking a nap. That's how it usually works out for me. Have a good evening from the other amer-expat.
Cheers!
